Tool Design Evolution

Tool Design’s success with production machining, large turning capabilities and staff of entrepreneurial engineers led to a diversification of its tool and die business into the design, production, and repair of hydraulic cylinders in the 1980's.

Initial design and production began with the outrigger jack cylinders for former Tulsa based Crane Carrier Company Work-Over Rigs and hydraulic cylinders for EIMCO underground mining equipment followed.

These relationships served to catapult the company into a major player in the western hydraulic and fluid power industry.

Performance and service with Nevada gold mining during the 1990s, then led Tool Design to forged formal contractual relationships with Mannesmann Demag and O&K Mining, international manufacturers of the largest mining shovels in the world. Our staff of manufacturing engineers and mechanics were trained to factory processes and standards.

Since 2003, Tool Design serves Utah based Kennecott Utah Cooper Corporation contractually as a Preferred Provider of Fluid Power products for the Smelter & Refinery. This includes general repair work of critical process equipment and manufacturing of parts throughout the property.

Tool Design’s facility spans 30,000 sq-ft. on 2.3 acres located in Salt Lake City. The facility contains overhead gantry cranes, large diameter manual and CNC lathes, automatic power honing, complete assembly tooling and fluid power test equipment to 5,000 psi.

Our services provide unmatched expertise in the field of fluid power as a solution-oriented provider
